- <p> CONVICTED. John List, 64, fugitive arrested last year in
- Richmond for the murder of his family in Westfield, N.J., in
- 1971; of five counts of first-degree murder; in Elizabeth, N.J.
- List's attorney admitted the accountant had killed his wife,
- mother and three children but claimed he had a mental problem
- that made him incapable of aborting the plot once he had
- conceived it. A prosecution psychiatrist said he merely suffered
- from a mid-life crisis. List, who had taken a new identity and
- wife, was spotted by viewers of the TV program America's Most
- Wanted.
